CNY Preparations

Diary entry #2 - 23 January 2012

Dear diary,

It is the first day of Chinese New Year. Nothing special really, just a family holiday trip to Penang. It's been a really exhausting journey. We're staying in Junita's house. Junita is my tenant who rents a room in my house and now it will be us living in hers for the next 3 days. We just had an awesome lunch with her family immediately after we downloaded our belongings. So as my siblings are napping, I decided to write about the preparations for Chinese New Year.

This year, like the past 2 years my siblings and I were disappointed because mom always plan trips on the first few days of Chinese New Year. At first we were thinking bout all the fun we'd miss out with our relatives as well as the red packets! It turns out that this trip is beginning to look interesting, and I've never been to Penang. Thus, there weren't really much preparations. I've been called a shopaholic countless times because of how much shopping I've done for this year's CNY. I've been really busy the few weeks before this because as CNY gets closer, business in the wet market is busier than usual. I spent few days in a row along with my sister, waking up at like 5 in the morning to help my mom out til bout 11am.

Things have been hectic this year and I'll talk more about that in upcoming diary entries/blog posts. With that aside, it's been a pleasure meeting up with my cousins and hanging out together. I watched Underworld the Awakening last week and boy was it amazing. Then there was this time when my brother wanted to bake cookies! It was his first time doing it, so we all helped out. Some turned out burned, the batter was a failure, but we all had fun together! Haha the succeeded ones tasted okay. Just yesterday, it was CNY eve where families gather together to have a reunion dinner.

The food was really great but it seems that the CNY spirit just isn't there anymore. When I was younger, everyone used to bond together playing poker cards and having fun. Every year we practise less tradition and play with gadgets instead. I remember the youngsters (my fellow cousins, my siblings and I) played the iPad last year. At least this year it wasn't that bad, we gathered together to play Monopoly cards. All in all, I'm just glad that I get to gather with my relatives and fellowship together. I thank God for the things He's done for us and for the amazing year ahead of us. I'll be writing more stuff when I have time during this trip in Penang. Happy Chinese New Year (:

Til then,
Leo.
